Preparing for the Spring
How to get yard ready
It has certainly been a long winter-and we certainly are not done with the cold. But as we approach spring, there are many things a homeowner can do to get their yard ready for the landscape season.
Clean Up Debris: Remove leaves, branches, and dead plants from flower beds, around trees, and any other areas.
Prune Trees & Shrubs: Trim back dead or damaged branches and shape plants to encourage new growth. The best time to prune is when plants are still dormant! Do it before it is too late.
Fertilize: Apply a balanced fertilizer to trees, shrubs, and garden beds to support healthy growth. Some evergreens, like eastern pines or arborvitaes, thrive with a Holly-tone application in early spring.

Prepare Soil: Have extra waste like coffee grounds and apple cores? Start a compost bin! Adding organic matter to your garden beds will dramatically, and organically, improve your results!
Plant Cold-Tolerant Crops: Start planting early-season vegetables like peas, spinach, and lettuce once the ground is workable. And, make sure to begin getting your garden plan ready!
